Using Urban Enterprise Zones to Revitalize Trenton

Trenton, NJ – In 1925, Calvin Coolige famously said “The business of America is business.” Over a century later, Trenton’s Urban Enterprise Zone is creating opportunities for businesses to grow, profit and revitalize the City .On Wednesday, March 4, 2026 Kiwanis Club of Trenton welcomes Engel Mallen of the City’s Department of Housing and Economic Development to find out how Trenton is making the most of its 3.06 square mile urban enterprise zone. All are welcome to attend the program, which begins at noon in Leonardo’s II Restaurant, 2021 Brunswick Pike, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648. Please RSVP to   mccormicknj@aol.com by March 3, 2026. Trenton’s Urban Enterprise Zone was designated in 1985, and since then has attracted millions in commercial investment. Much remains to be done through program benefits including forgivable loans, tax reductions and exemptions and other incentives. Mr. Mallen focuses on outreach and marketing to bring the UEZ program to the attention of current as well as prospective businesses which are key to the City’s economic revitalization.

Founded in 1918, the Kiwanis Club’s programs have supported children’s services, community events and, since 1955, the Kiwanis Camp Fund, which has raised over $2 million for summer camp experiences for Trenton children.In addition to the ongoing Camp Fund, current Kiwanis initiatives include Heritage Week, a celebration of America’s 250^th birthday with programming from July 4 – 8, 2026 as well as “Vision Trenton,” a collaborative community effort to stimulate economic redevelopment by promoting Trenton’s extensive historic assets.
